I've always been more of a tea girl than a coffee girl, but oh sweet golly gosh - I'm more than willing to make an exception for this mask from Lush Cosmetics. I'll be honest with you and say I actually hadn't planned on picking this mask up. I popped in to scoop up one of the fresh masks, but unfortunately for me, the only day I can go is the day before their weekly fresh mask restock. I, in a sense, get the bottom of the barrel, and none of the available masks offered the benefits I was looking for. I thankfully chatted with a shop assistant, and she guided me to the Cup O'Coffee Face and Body Mask. Am I sure glad she did!
This mask is not one of the fresh face masks that are so popular. This mask doesn't need to be refrigerated like the fresh masks and can last up to three months as opposed to three weeks. It's a blend of coffee grounds, kaolin, and agave syrup, and I'd say it's perfect for those who don't want to worry about ruining their mask or doesn't use masks frequently.
The mask itself isn't as grainy as I had expected it to be since, ya know, coffee grounds. The consistency is quite creamy and light, but once I started spreading it across my face the exfoliating effect of the coffee grounds came through. The grounds have just enough of a coarseness that I can tell I'm exfoliating but not so coarse I'm scraping my face off.
I leave the mask on my face for about 15 minutes. I know that's on the long side, but it's so comfortable, I could probably leave it on longer because it's easy to forget about. This mask doesn't dry and crumble on the face like other masks. I find that when it dries, it's more settling into place than really drying. That may make zero sense, but I hope you get what I mean.
Taking the mask off is a bit of a task because the coffee grounds sure like to stick everywhere. As long as you wash off the bulk of them when you rinse, you can get the stray bits when you dry your face (I recommend you have a towel only for your face). I can see results immediately as I'm taking off the mask. My skin looks brighter, even, and cleaner. The cup the mask comes in says you can use this mask to "kick start your day," and I think this is totally true. This mask is something I use to relax at the end of the day, but if you have a long morning to get ready for the day, this mask would be perfect to give you some pep!
