This is for all of my girls who are figuratively pounding their head on their desk – or, I mean, literally. I know you’re already aware of how hard blogging can be, no matter how far into your journey you are, but you know when you’re looking at a stunning photo or reading an incredible post or seeing someone rack up followers on top of followers who genuinely love them and you’re like… HOW?
What do they know that I don’t?
I always felt like when I learned some clever little tid bit, I had to hold onto it for dear life. No way in hell I could share this magical secret with anyone because what if they do it better than me? What if they have more success than me because of this secret I let them in on? How can I grow and stand out from others if I share what few secrets I have?
I don’t want to sabotage myself.
But, like, you know what? I’ll get upset or miffed or envious that I don’t know how one person does something, but they’re doing what I do. They’re keeping their secrets and methods to themselves so they can stand out, stay original, and not have another blogger do their tricks better than them. We’re all doing the same thing to try and say ahead of each other. We don’t want to help each other at the risk someone else will succeed. I’ve learned something midst all of sealed mouths and sideways glances though.
I love bloggers with loose lips.
I genuinely admire and want to keep up with the ones who TELL. THEIR. SECRETS. The bloggers that tell you exactly how they edit their photos and how they promote their content and how they work to cultivate their personal brand. The bloggers who are out there succeeding and want to share that wealth of success and knowledge. Like, it’s so generous and non-douche-y I have to love them. They’re so sure in what they know, sharing isn’t threatening.
Building up others isn’t tearing ourselves down.
I don’t have a lush following or grand success, but I’m not excluded from transparency because of that. I can still be honest with you, reading this now, about exactly how I do what I do, how I’ve learned what I know, and how you can do it too.
Where did you get your theme?
I got my theme through Pipdig! My theme is Viva Viva.
What blogging platform do you use?
I use WordPress! I started on Blogger, but made the switch in January 2018. You can read about my switch in this post.
What camera do you use?
I use the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 with a 18-55mm lens. This model is sold out through Canon, but it looks like you can find good quality used ones on Amazon (as of this writing)!
How do you edit your photos?
I edit all of my photos on my phone! I mainly use two apps: Snapseed and Afterlight.
Who takes them for you?
My best friend! She’s a peach and humors me by going all over the place to take my picture. She honestly knows how to use my camera better than I do. Oops.
What apps do you use?
Dropbox: This is my handy-dandy tool to always have my photos with me. I’m able to upload my photos to Dropbox, export them to my phone through the app, and upload clean, edited pictures back in to add to blog posts on my laptop!
UNUM: This app was a major game changer for me. This app lets you plan your Instagram grid ahead of time and allows you to have blank spaces. The blanks are valuable to me because I can balance my content and see where I need to plug in additional photos.
What podcasts do you listen to?
The Goal Digger Podcast by Jenna Kutcher.
The Influencer Podcast by Julie Solomon.
What courses have you taken?
Blog Boss Babe by Helene Sula. I’ve been using this course since January 2018. I barely dented it before I had to stop and revamp my entire website. Helene is full of knowledge and honestly put so much work into this program. I can’t wait to dive even deeper into it.
Instagram for Success by Helene Sula. Yes, yes, another Helene program. Legit, you gotta take this course. Helene teaches so many tips and tricks to create a quality Instagram and how to utilize it for your brand. She introduces you to all the apps and tools you need. There are apps I use which I have not disclosed on this page because I learned about them through Helene’s program, and I would feel wrong sharing her lessons for free.
What about the other question I have that you haven’t answered?
ASK ME! I swear, like, I feel like it’s super intimidating to ask bloggers about how they do things, but please, please, please feel like you can ask me. Be it photography, blogging, writing, fashion, locations, whatever! I will answer you the best I can. You can reach out to me on any of my social media or send me an e-mail. If you have a question, you’re probably not the only one.
